The longer and more closely I looked at them, the more animate the yams seemed to me -- almost like beached whales or a group of seals or porpoises sunning themselves.... Dear little yams!
“I have learned that what I have not drawn I have never really seen, and that when I start drawing an ordinary thing I realize how extraordinary it is, sheer miracle: the branching of a tree, the structure of a dandelion’s seed puff. ‘A mouse is miracle enough to stagger sextillions of infidels,’ says Walt Whitman. I discover that among the Ten Thousand Things there is no ordinary thing. All that is, is worthy of being seen, of being drawn.” - Frederick Franck

Meditation: Five Yams
The longer and more closely I looked at them, the more animate the yams seemed to me -- almost like beached whales or a group of seals or porpoises sunning themselves.... Dear little yams!

You are motivating me. I bought the book and now it is my laziness or busyness that is keeping me from moving forward!
ReplyDeleteMatthew, you've taken the first step. Now take the next, and keep going, one step at a time. Let me know how it goes!
DeleteYour end result is really nice, Pamela. I know you've said getting the proportions right is one of your challenges, but it looks like you have it here. Karen
